Dating 10 Years (Engaged 12/19/2015)

First Love Lasts…I met Matt in seventh grade and I hated his guts. Sure, I was kinda mean, but here was this smart-a** kid who thought he was the smartest and funniest kid in class without ever even trying. Granted, he *was* the smartest and funniest kid in class. But that\’s not the point. So obviously we became best friends right away. And as kids do, he asked me out on AIM. High school, college, putting up with YEARS of the long distance thing, and we suddenly find ourselves 10 years later. We haven\’t managed to get sick of each other yet, and while we have certainly fought (about pretty much everything you can think of) we\’re still too stubborn to fall out of love. People say we grew up together, but I think they give us more credit than we deserve. While I never plan on us ever actually growing up, I do plan on growing old and wrinkly, and making fun of him for growing old and wrinkly too. Everything in our lives has changed in the past 10 years. Particularly ourselves — our personalities, our plans, our goals. We\’re different people than when he first started kissing me in the stairwell when no one was around. 10 years and still best friends. He\’s still a smart-a**, I\’m still kinda mean, he still kisses me in stairwells when no one is around. We\’re not sure how this works but boy does it work. We\’ve been on plenty of adventures together, but the scariest and most thrilling one is yet to come. I can\’t wait.

A Sunny Surprise…Since the year I was born, 24 years ago, I have been going on vacation in Marco Island, Florida every January with my mom, dad and older sister. My parents bought a time share in their 20s for a song before the island was popular and we stay there, at the same Resort, every year. It has always been my favorite week of the year, I count down the days from the minute we leave, and it is my favorite place in the whole world. I have always dreamed of getting engaged there, but only my mom and sister knew, and they told me I was nuts. I talk about Marco Island all the time and would constantly show my boyfriend photos and beg him to move there when we\’re old and wrinkly. This year, my parents invited him to join us, the first time they have ever invited anyone down because Chris and I bought a house together and they thought it was time, but he couldn\’t take the time off from work and the four of us went down as usual. One night, Chris didn\’t call me to say goodnight. I was worried but figured he fell asleep. The next morning at 5am, the time he usually wakes up for work, he texted me that he had fallen asleep and his phone was about to die, but he would call me after work. (Little did I know he was actually on an airplane about to take off, and had gone to bed early because he had to get up at 2 am for his flight!) I went to the beach with my family and after a while my mom and sister wanted me to take photos of them by the water. As I took their photo, they kept asking me to take another and they would get into silly poses. After a minute of this, I felt a tap on my shoulder. I turned around to see Chris on his knee in the sand, ring in hand. What I felt in that moment isn\’t something I can even put into words. The world stood still, the sounds of the beach went totally quiet and I couldn\’t even breathe. I said yes to my best friend in my favorite place on the planet. I still thank him every day for knowing me so well and making my wildest dreams come true.

Cancer Messed with the Wrong Couple

On the night that we met, we almost did not meet. I did not want to go out, but my friend convinced me to go. Gary almost did not call back his friend who asked him to go out that night. As soon as we saw each other, I was hoping Gary would be interested in me, as he was hoping the same, and then he asked me to dance. After three months of dating, we told each other, “I love you.” Our love grew stronger and stronger every day, but then our lives were suddenly overcome with sadness and uncertainty when we were just 21 and 22 years of age. I was diagnosed with brain cancer and this is when the test of our love began. Gary stayed by my side through doctor appointments, biopsies, MRIs, chemotherapy, proton radiation, mood changes, disability, vertigo and pain. When I lost all of my hair he told me that I was beautiful. When I was crying he told me everything was going to be okay. When I was thinking negative he made me think positive. What could have torn us apart made our love even stronger. He is my rock and I am his fighter. On August 29th, Gary proposed to me and I said yes. Gary has already proven that he will be there for me through sickness and in health. I am so happy to have survived brain cancer so that I can be engaged to and marry the love of my life. We have recently celebrated our four year anniversary of being together and my two year cancer free anniversary. After everything we have been through, it would be a true blessing to have our dream wedding at Harbor Lights. It would be such a celebration in proving that cancer cannot surpass the strength of true love.

Dating 3 Years (Engaged 6/7/15)

Lawfully Long Distance Love…My fiancé and I officially met on our first date on January 27, 2013. At the time I was living in RI working at Hasbro and he was in NJ working in sales. We had been chatting on the phone and texting for a month before actually meeting. We were introduced by my sorority sister whom was dating his childhood friend. Our first date was in New Haven, CT (which is halfway between NJ and RI). We went to this amazing sushi place and when I was in the bathroom he told our waiter that we were on our first date and meeting for the first time. When I returned to the table the waiter brought over this amazing dessert and sake on the house. It was truly a magically date and we didn\’t want it to end. I think we both knew at the conclusion of the night that we both felt a spark. We continued having a long distance relationship for 9 months until my fiancé told me that he had been accepted into the Baltimore City Police Academy. I knew being a police officer was his dream job so I was excited for him but sad that distance was still a factor in our relationship. With a little jump of faith I eventually moved to MD. In that time my fiancé faced many hardships with his career. One of these hardships being the Baltimore riots. My fiancé patrols in the western district where the riots took place. During that time he was working so much I rarely saw him for weeks. I was a nervous wreck not knowing if he would come home alive at the end of his shift. We both decided that RI is where we want to start a family snd I was lucky enough to get hired back at Hasbro as a paralegal. The week before I left for RI we had a trip to Mexico planned with 20 of my family members. On the third day of vacation, while on the beach, Sufian got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. It was hands down the best day of my life. I moved back to RI shortly after we returned to MD. Sufian and I have been doing long distance ever since so that we can save up financially for our wedding. Our love is worth it!

Jessica & Kirsten

finalist10

Dating 5 Years (Engaged 1/3/15)

My fiancé and I have been together for 5 years, one of those years being engaged. Throughout those 5 years we have experienced a lot (long distance dating, Kirsten graduating the police academy, fighting for equal rights, fighting for our family and friends to accept us). Through it all we are now living together in our first home with our new puppy and can\’t believe how far we have come. Kirsten is my absolute everything, she is my rock inspiration, and hero. Every night she puts on her uniform and goes to serve the city of Providence, although I am extremely proud of her every night I worry for her safety. I couldn\’t imagine my life without her she completes me in ways I didn\’t know possible. I\’m usually the worry wart or stressed easily and she is the calm one who knows how to act or to just be with me to make me feel better. To say our dating relationship was a breeze would be a lie, we have battled with families not accepting our life style to being nervous about telling co-workers who our significant other is because we do not want to be judged or mistreated. Through it all Kirsten has stuck by my side and shown me that I picked the right person to spend my life with. She has saved me from being bitter and I would love to be able to win this to show her how much I appreciate her and love her.

Dating 2.5 Years (Engaged 12/4/16)

Just One More Time…Sometimes people come into our life and certain things happen that we struggle to explain, but sometimes you get “one more time” to find their meaning. As I rounded the corner of my favorite restaurant (The Grille on Main) 9 years ago while celebrating my older sister’s birthday, there he was staring back at me with his bright blue eyes and welcoming smile. He knew my sister and stopped by to wish her a happy birthday. Little did I know then that Matt was the man I would someday spend the rest of my life with. Matthew was four years older than me. I met him when he was a 19-year-old freshman at Norwich University. Although he was home on summer break, he was much too focused on academics, rugby, and his future to worry about the 15 year old girl he met once at her sisters birthday dinner, not to mention he was much too old to date at the time. After that day, our paths didn\’t cross for seven years. Fast forward to the summer after my college graduation when I was walking down Main St. in East Greenwich (where he now ironically works as a firefighter) and there he was…Seven Years Later. We stopped in The Grille on Main to catch up. We hadn\’t seen or talked to each other in seven years but I felt like we had known each other forever. We had so much in common as well as so many wonderful differences. All of the similarities helped us bond, while the differences helped us grow. That “one more time” to catch up turned into many more. After our first few dates, Matt became my best friend and we became an unbreakable team that works through and does everything together. I now, finally understand what people mean when they say, \”he\’s my other half\”. Matthew makes me whole. We have learned to be selfless, compassionate, understanding, and affectionate. We love who we were, who we have become, and what our future together has in store for us; no one could have predicted this seven years ago. However, now we know why we were put together that day…just one more time.

Kori & Ryan

finalist2

Dating 3.5 Years (Engaged 1/2/16)

Ryan and I met through my sister in 2012. Two years prior she met him on a plane when they were both flying to a national volleyball tournament. They became instant friends. At the time my sister and I were living together and she was constantly hanging out at Ryan\’s. I thought she was dating him and wasn\’t interesting in introducing us just yet. Turns out, she didn\’t want to introduce us because she thought we might hit it off and she didn\’t want to lose one of her friends. Well, two years after they met, she invited me to his apartment to celebrate her birthday. Ryan and I started dating the next day. Turns out, she was right. The day Ryan proposed was like any other Saturday. We did some work on our house and then parted ways for a bit. I went shopping and he went bowling with his family and out to lunch. I came home late afternoon and all the lights were on in the house. I was excited thinking he was finishing up some DIY renovation projects we had started. I was greeted by him at the door and then he walked away to get our cat, Penguin. I was just chatting away about my day, walked over to him and Penguin and gave her a kiss on the head. I walked away still chatting and completely oblivious. Ryan then said \’you know, you\’re being really unobservant right now\”. So I started looking around the house trying to see what project he had finished. (Ryan\’s swears I was looking to see if he did the dishes) So finally after being completely baffled, he said \”Look at your cat\”. I saw what I thought was a collar on her and was so excited. I had been wanting to get her a cute collar. So I walked towards him and Penguin and when I went to pet her, she moved her head and then I saw the ring. I freaked out, causing Penguin to freak out, jump down and run away with the ring. Ryan was able to propose and then we chased her down. We adopted Penguin 2 years ago this month at the RISPCA and are obsessed with her so he wanted to include her in the proposal.

Brittany & Greg

finalist8

Dating 2 Years (Engaged 2/13/15)

All I know… Is everything has changed…My fiancé Greg & I met at work & just coworkers grew into friendship. As time went on we knew that we found the one we want to spend the rest of our lives with & everything had changed. We both had never felt this way about another person in our lives & knew that we were truly something special together. When our friends talk about us as a couple they use phrases like #relationshipgoals & inspirational. Not a day goes by where we don’t recognize how lucky we are & we never take one another for granted. This past February, Greg made my dream come true when he set up an elaborate proposal that included our whole family & closest friends. He arranged three surprises for me in Boston. We are kind & selfless people that would do anything for anyone. Greg has a large group of friends & has made it his priority to make it to almost all of their bachelor parties or weddings regardless of the cost. He is the model friend. Greg is the last of his group to tie the knot & hopes to be able to celebrate with all of his best friends at his dream wedding. I, on the other hand, have not been to as many weddings but have been dreaming of what my wedding would be like since I was a little girl. The wedding of my dreams seems unattainable with the financial situation we are in. With what seems like never-ending college loans & other daily bills, we have had to downgrade our dream wedding to accommodate the 150 family members and friends we are so lucky to have. This year has certainly been a year of hardship for us both. In losing Greg’s grandfather & my grandmother whom we were incredibly close with, we have been there for each other & reminded each other that they will be at our wedding in spirit. For a couple who never skimps out on a family outting, a friend’s birthday, or jumps at the opportunity to help someone out, we ask that 92PROFM grant us this wish to have our dream wedding. This day would be a day to always remember & most importantly celebrate the love we share.

Margo & Fabio

finalist9

Dating 5 Years (Engaged 12/19/15)

We met on Margo\’s 21st birthday and boogied the night away. It was definitely an instantaneous attraction as we both felt something brewing right away, regardless of the many celebratory margaritas- haha! It was a complicated time in both of our lives, particularly because Margo had arrangements to move to New York at the end of summer. After a summer of falling in love, we took the plunge and moved together. Five years, two silly weenie dogs, and a love nest that we so happily call home- we are truly in bliss. The way Fabio proposed was out of a dream for me, Margo. After designing a uniquely beautiful ring, I was whisked away by a whirlwind of surprises. It was just before the Holidays and Fabio convinced me to spontaneously surprise me by going ice skating at Kennedy Plaza, something I had never done. After (gracefully) skating around the rink for a bit, the ice was cleared for the zamboni. Fabio dared me to skate out into the middle with him and snap a quick photo. As we get to the middle of the ice, Fabio got down on one knee and popped the question in front of a cheering crowd. To top it all off, Fabio had hired a professional photographer to film the proposal and then travel to our favorite places in Rhode Island and capture the moment. The dude did a wonderful job, didn\’t he?! I\’m incredibly fortunate to have such a fairytale experience. We are so in love, so very happy, and so excited to become a family of O-ending names! 🙂 Thanks, love y\’all! Congrats to all contestants! Fabio & Margo

Ashley & Michael

finalist5

Dating 11 Years (Engaged 12/19/15)

Middle school sweethearts to husband and wife…I\’m actually writing on behalf of my baby sister and her fiancé. Ashley and Mike have had an amazing journey together, stemming all the way back to middle school when they began \”dating\” at just a mere 14 years old. From being named class couple their senior year, to becoming engaged this past December on their 10th anniversary. They\’ve seen each other through many obstacles, as well as milestones, and have shared and created amazing memories together. Ashley attended Salve Regina University, while Mike attended North Eastern. With distance and course loads sometimes putting a damper on things, they still never missed a chance to see each other and keep their fairytale love story going strong. Both have since graduated, Ashley is currently teaching on the Elementary level in the East Providence school district while pursuing her Masters in Education. Mike has taken on the rigorous and costly course load of Med School at Tufts University, finishing in May 2018. Their love story is nothing short of admirable, beautiful and strong, and I as the big sister could not be any prouder of them both. Now, after nearly an 11 year journey, they will finally be able to continue their amazing story, from middle school sweethearts to husband and wife.
