One of the most anticipated concerts of the summer rolled through town, as Demi Lovato and Nick Jonas brought the Honda Civic ‘Future Now’ Tour to the TD Garden in Boston on Wednesday, July 20th. It was a show to focus on just the talent and new songs; no crazy set, no distracting back up dancers or special effects, just a simple stage with large video screens and the band!
Their dual-headlining tour had the crowd going wild from start to finish. Nick Jonas opened the show with “Levels,” continuing with hits off his two latest albums: “Numb,” “Chains,” and his song, “Bacon,” where videos of delicious-looking, sizzling bacon played throughout the number on the large TV walls surrounding the stage. Nick walked off stage, and the show picked up when Demi opened her first set with “Confident,” which then lead into “Heart Attack” and “Neon Lights.” The singer’s powerhouse voice stole the show, which she showcased during her emotional ballad “Stone Cold,” as Nick rose up from under the stage on a white piano while they performed. Demi also stood in for Tove Lo in the more energetic “Close,” with Jonas.
“She’s one of my best friends, we go back about 10 years,” Nick told us, but the two showed little interaction on stage during the short time they were up there together. The crowd didn’t seem to mind, and kept the energy strong throughout both of their solo performances.
The show was mainly focused on the most recent music of both artists, not of the earlier work from the beginnings of Nick or Demi’s solo careers. However, Demi did sneak in one throwback, as she closed the night having everyone sing along to “Skyscraper.”
