Report: The 10 Safest Cities and Towns in Rhode Island

glocester

SafeWise, a home security and safety company, released its 10 Safest Cities in Rhode Island this week. To compile this report, SafeWise analysts considered the most recent FBI crime data from 2014 to rank these cities, which all have a minimum population of 5,000 people. They then narrowed it down based on the number of reported violent crimes (aggravated assault, murder, rape, and robbery) and property crimes (burglary, arson, larceny-theft, and motor vehicle theft) in each city. To further level the playing field, SafeWise calculated the likelihood of these crimes occurring out of 1,000 people in each city.

The safest town in Rhode Island in 2016 is Glocester, with 0.40 violent crimes per 1,000 and 4.44 property crimes per 1,000. The rest of the top five included Scituate, Jamestown, Burrillville, and South Kingstown.

Smithfield, Richmond, Bristol, Portsmouth, and Charlestown round out the top ten.
