On Friday, June 10, 2016, heaven gained another angel. The lovely YouTuber and The Voice finalist Christina Grimmie was shot and killed while signing autographs after a show in Orlando, Florida. The news and reports regarding this tragic and shocking death have been flowing all throughout the internet, leaving many in disbelief and aching. As a result of pure shock, most articles on the news have felt quite automatic and have almost materialized the situation, leaving no room for compassion towards Grimmie, her family, friends, and fans. To present respect and heartfelt sympathy towards this hurtful loss, this is not an article regarding the details of Grimmie’s death, rather one to honor her existence and legendary life.
Christina Grimmie was an exceptionally marvelous soul, whose raw talent touched many hearts across the world. This incredible singer from New Jersey began her musical journey back in 2009 through her YouTube channel, zeldaxlove64, that in which reached over 3 million subscribers. Over the years, Grimmie had built an extremely strong and supportive fan base simply by presenting herself as a real and simple human being, and allowing her fans to relate to her life in various ways. Grimmie was a lover of video games and a devoted worshiper of God. Because she always made people around her laugh, and continuously spread kind words and gestures, it is safe to describe her as the light of the room. Grimmie encouraged all of her fans to be quirky and silly, making it a statement that it is okay to be different and that if we were all the same this world would be boring.
As Grimmie continued posting covers on her YouTube channel, her views escalated and her audience grew immensely; her vocal abilities and performing skills were defined by many as the best of the best. Singer and actress Selena Gomez discovered Grimmie’s talent, and had her join her on tour as the opening act. Touring with Gomez was significant in Grimmie’s career, but did not stop her from posting YouTube covers for her fans and staying true to her morals. Actions like these were what made Grimmie so special to so many people. As her musical journey progressed, the singer stepped foot on the television show, The Voice, where she was mentored by Adam Levine and eventually placed third in the finale. The following summer, Grimmie went on tour with other incredibly talented finalists and winners from various seasons of The Voice. Along with gaining various new fans, this tour also gave the original fans from the YouTube days the opportunity to see Grimmie perform live and to finally meet her.
Friends and supporters of Grimmie are currently feeling puzzled, angry, and heartbroken during this painful time. Thousands of fans have been posting kind messages all over social media wishing her family the best, sharing personal moments with Grimmie, and sending prayers. Mentor Adam Levine showed his love and support by posting a photo with Grimmie that stated, “I’m sad, shocked and confused. We love you so much Grimmie…this just isn’t fair.” Many friends of Grimmie posted their thoughts and feelings on the matter, including Selena Gomez who commented “My heart is absolutely broken. I miss you Christina.” Grimmie lived through God, and through kindness, even when accomplishing wonderful things in her 22 years of life she remained humble through every step. She spoke of her talent selflessly, stating that her voice was “the Lord’s.” The life Christina Grimmie has left behind is one that will remain respected, honored, and untouched. Through the support, prayers, and dedication of her beloved fans, her light, passion, and success will live on.
