East Providence Basketball

HS2

Congratulations to this week’s Showcase Cinemas High School Team of the Week: East Providence Girls Basketball!

This week’s spotlight was sent by head coach, Michael Solitro:

For those of you that do not know already, the East Providence Girls Basketball Team participates every year in a huge Pink Zone campaign to help raise money for breast cancer awareness and prevention. Over the past seven years, with the community’s help, we have been able to raise over $12,000 for this cause. This year we

This year we have a cause, a lot closer to home. Dylan Carreiro, a sophomore at EPHS, has recently been diagnosed with stage four Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Dylan is a bright, athletic, and caring student who is very family-oriented and loved by many. The Girl’s Basketball Program, along with my non-profit organization OpportUNITY Knocks, has decided to pay tribute to Dylan’s fight during our game on January 14th against Mount Hope High School. After losing my grandmother to a battle with cancer, I have made it our personal mission to do our part in helping end this terrible disease.

We are anticipating our largest crowd ever for a contest here at East Providence High School, with an excess of over 900 spectators, rooting for Dylan and his beloved Townies.

This is certainly a story that you do now want to miss.

This community will come together in what promises to have a very emotional and happy ending to this game.

The game will take place on January 14th at 7PM, with an emotional conclusion happening by the end of the second half.

We again promise that this is definitely an ending that will capture the hearts of people around Rhode Island.
